WEEK-END TRACK WORK
There wae a white frost at Trenthtini on Saturday, and for a time a dense fog prevented the starting of training operations. A good crowd was present io see the work, which included a good deni of jumping. The No. 1 grass and sand tracks wero open, and the going was splendid. If the present weather holds the^t racks will be in perfect condition for M edneaday’s racing. Royal Exchange, who looks well, had to bo kicked out io hold off the two-year-old Lord Martian at the end of five furlongs on tho grass. Militaire. next galloped six furlongs hr himself and moved resolutely. Rose Pink revelled in the soft going, and had Trentham Rose beaten off at the end of six furlongs. Spook and Bonnie Maid were associated over a mile. The former cleared out from his companion, and got to the end of the journey in Imin. 50sec., a useful gallop. Callaahan, who bears signs of having knocked himself behind, was associated with Forest Gold and Ilymestra over six furlongs. The two first-mentioned finished many lengths in front of H'ymestra. the time being Imin. 21sec. Callaghan does not gallop well on soft tracks, nnd Forest Gold was not allowed to do his best. Halifax and Battle Song were given trotting and cantering. They are not engaged at the meeting. Great Effort, whose owner was present, and Siberian went five furlongs, and were joined by Hellenois, tho half-sister io Astinome. over the last two furlongs. Great Effort was beaten off, and Hellenois comfortably accounted for the chestnut. The time was Imin. 7lsec. Mr. J. Bull’s horses, Omahu, Ruddy, and Yankee Jack, all of whom look well, were given steady work on the sand. Edendalc, a Trial Plate candidate, and Dainty Step ran six furlongs in Imin. 21 2-ssec. Fortune Teller, who looks very fit, spurted down the straight, and was then trotted On 'he sand. Jingleform alone ran five furlongs, and finished well. Opiate was given trotting exercises on the sand. He has not been doing well of late, and his trainer is not asking too much of him. Deucalion, galloped half a, mile down the back. Hyttus, with his trainer in the saddle, was given a couple of slow rounds on the sand. Manchester, the full-brother to Kyoto, and the Merrie Gain filly, ran down ths straight. Treso. by himself, worked on the grass, and was then given a circuit on the sand. Jock surprised the touts by badly defeating that good track mare Silk Rein over six furlongs, Iwhich took Imin. 20sec. The southern horse carried a big weight, and did his gallop well.. Tho Trial Plate candidate Munns was spurted down the back. Printemps and Auckland galloped five furlongs in Imin. 7 l-ssec. Some Fashion strode out freely over a counle of circuits on the sand. Multive. who will be ridden by G. Clarke in the Winter Hurdles, was gi ven steady work. Matatane and Vagabond ran a mite in Imin. 52sec., with the former going much the better. Rimutaka and Jackaroo moved pleasingly iu a dash over five furlongs. One of the best gallops of the morning was accomplished by Kauri King and Arch Salute, who comfortably left six furlongs behind in Imiu. 20sec. The first-named is not engaged at the meeting, but Arch Salute will race in the Parliamentary Handicap and Winter Oats Handicap. Amongst the jumpers seen out were Simon and Gladful, who gave a good exhibition over hurdles, and afterwards galloped seven furlongs on. the grass. Hallow and Alteration schooled over hurdles, and shaped well, as did Sweet Tipperary, who gave a faultless exhibition. and seems a greatly improved mare since joining A. Goodman’s team. Oakleigh and Malincourt jumped the big fences on tho course proper, and John Bunny, Luperino, and Pokekane gave a good showing, but the latter ran off at the last two fences. The hunters, Malahine and Northland were given a turn over the big fences ou the course proper. Locholla, General Advance, and Miss Muriel were on the course, but were not asked to do much. Saturday’s arrivals included R. Knox with Sir Rosebery and Penury Roee, S, Waddell with Bagdad, Battle Knight, Uistedfodd. ami Ilhume (Kilbrony—Simper), a Trial Stakes candidate, V. Collelo with Tigritiya and Chant Royal, A« Julian with Lord Kenilworth and No, Bother. C. Carmont with Sylvan and Archie. P. Smith with Tari, S. Trilforit with Gamecock. Royal Mac. and Battle Scene. J. Murphy with Ditchley, and F, Cress with Hyginas.
