AUSTRALIA V. WEST OF SCOTLAND MAYNE SCORES ALL ROUND THE WICKET Or Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. July 10, 5.5 p.m.) London, July 8. The Australian cricketers commenced their match againet the West of Scotland team to-day. The weather wae fine, but sultry, and. the wicket was good and fast. There was an attendance of 5000. Tho West of Scotland team is: Colonel Hoare, Barbour, Ferguson, Thain, Stevenson, Mannes, George Gunn, John Gunn, Carr, Speed, and Day. M'Donald, Macartney, Carter, and Pellew are standing out of the Australian team. Play started at 1.30, and it was decided that there should no no break except for tea. Armstrong won the toss and sent Bardsley and Collins in to bat. Ferguson (a slow left-handed bowler) and Thain (a right-hander of medium pace) opened the bowling. Twenty-three wore scored in four overs. Collins was caught high at mid-on by Barbour, who is not related to the. Australian Barbour. One wicket for 54 runs. Bardsley, when at 23, sent a hard return to Thain, which he missed. Speed <a right-hand medium-fast bowler) came on in place of Thain. Andrews was run out. Ho ran down tho pitch after making a stroke, but Bardsley did not move. Two wickets for 69 runs. Bardsley hit 50 in fifty minutes, and the century was reached in 54 minutes. After tea Bardsley was caught by Day off Thain, when he hod compiled a useful 74. The score then was 131 for three wickets. Mayne joined Taylor, but seven runs later lost him, as when at 23 he put one from Thain into the hands of George Gunn, who accepted the catch. Four wickets for 138. Mayne continued to bat confidently, making strokes all round the wicket, and, with the assistance of Armstrong, raised the total from 138 to 251, when lie was bowled by Speed.
