WAR GRAVES

ANZAC DAY INSPECTION. Tho Internal Affairs Department twar graves branch) has received, advice from the Imiierial AVar Graves Commission that as an outcome of tho appeal made to residents in Groat Britain, who reside in the districts where there are military cemeteries, to undertake an Anzac Day pilgrimage, reports have been received at Australia House, London, showing that between 500 and 600 graves of New Zealand soldiers who are buried in England were visited In many coses photographs of tho cemeteries accompanied the imports, showing that care and attention was being given to toe graves. As soon as possible, the War Graves Department intends to furnish, a separate report on each grave, and the reports are to be sent to the next-of-kin of each deceased soldier together with * photograph of the cemetery in which the interment hag taken place in cases where a photograph, has been supplied. The Imperial AVer Graves Commission has signified its'intention of publishing in took form n record of deceased soldiers who are buried in the various military cemeteries. A leather-bound volume will to given in charge of the caretaker of each cemeteny in order that visitors may be able to ascertain at once whe,re a particular soldier is buried. Other copies are also to bo made avail-, able, and in order that a. complete record mav to obtained of each deceased soldier, the Commission, through the Internal Affaire Department of New Zealand, is making application to tne relatives to supply the necessary details. The regimental number, name, and rank of each deceased soldier is, of course, known to the authorities, and any additions, such as names of parents, address, occupation in civil hfe, locality from Which tho deceased came from in New Zealand, will to inserted if supplied. The next-of Isii have already been notified to this effect by toe war graves branch of the Internal Affaire Department, and early replies are looked for as the lihperial War Graves Commission is anxious to put ihe work in hand at, an early date.
