PROGRESS TOWARDS AGREEMENT MADE AT DUBLIN SMUTS AND DE VALERA MEET By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, July 5. It is stated in Parliamentary circles that progress towards a definito agreement was substantial at tho conference in Dublin of Sinn Fein leaders and Southern Unionist representatives. Mr. Do Valera is expected to visit London at the close of the conversations. An official message from Dublin states that General Smuts will arrive to-mor-row, and will be met by prominent Irishmen, including Mr. De Valera. General Smuts has reached Dublin, and interviewed Mr. De Valera _and leading Sinn Feiners. He will vis't Belfast to-morrow, to interview iSir James Craig. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. QUESTION OF A TRUCE DEBATED SINN FEIN SUSPENDING CAMPAIGN OF VIOLENCE. (Rec. July 7, 1.5 a.m.) London, July 5. Sir James Craig is in London, and will not attend Friday’s conference in Dublin. He has not even been invited. Before leaving Belfast he assured his supporters that he stood firmly for all Ulster had won. Th© question of a truce was actively debated in Dublin. Sinn Fein has already suspended the ambushing of Crown forces in Dublin. Where the campaign of violence is going on in other districts it is due to Sinn Feiners acting on individual initiative.
