DUTY ON NEWSPRINT. (ReC. July 6. 5.5 p.m.) / Melbourne, July 6.' In the House of Representatives an amendment by Mr. Anstey that the duty on newsprint should be:—British preferential, free: intermediate, 15 per cent., and general, 15 per cent, ad valorem, was defeated by 24 votes to 14. A motion by Mr. Lamond that the duties should be n flat rate:—British preferential, free; intermediate, £3 per ton; and general, £3 per ton, waa carried by’ 21 votes to 14.—Press Assn.
