LEGION OF FRONTIERSMEN
ANNUAL CONFERENCE OPENED. By Telegraph.— Press Association. Gisborne, June 27. The seventh annual conference of the Legion of Frontiersmen was opened today, iSir Andrew Russell presiding. About sixteen delegates were present from all parts of the North Island. In his opening address, Sir Andrew Russell referred to Legionaries’ work in the war and to the value of preparedness. He also paid a tribute to the late Major Twisleton. Turning to the present world-wide unrest, Sir Andrew Russell said that people had not yet found their feet after the chaos of the Groat War. Instead of a drawing together, there was a splitting up, not only of peoples, but of nations. The tendency of sectarianism was to. grow. As Frontiersmen, they believed in patriotism, love of country, unity of. Empire, and maintenance of Anglo-Saxon traditions. The conference decided that, an official Dominion list of the Legion be compiled and printed for circulation. Various remits were carried.
