NEW STATE MINE
AVAILABLE IN SEPTEMBER
VVhfle visiting the AA’est Coast, th« Minister of Mines (Hon. G. J. Anderson) inspected the Janie. Mine. at Nine Alile, near Greymouth. This is a new- State mine, which is expected to be supplying coal .or household purposes before the end of the vear. It taps an important seam of good coal. Good progress has been made with the development, and the Ministei ■ - informed that the mine will be. ready to supply coal as soon as a railway connection has -been provided. A branch line is being constructed to serve the Jam Mine, but some cuttings hare still to be made, and the work is not likely to l» completed before i ti.-t Mr. Anderson said that toe field was being developed at the Janies Mi had been proved to contain a coal that was particularly suitable for household purposes. The State depots at present are supplying coal from the Liverpool Alin. The product of this mine is not regarded as properlyhousehold coal. I ' best gas-producing coal mined in A e Zealand and when the James Mine is in full operation a large part of the output of the Liverpool Alfne will be lese for the gas works.
