TAXATION PAYMENTS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, June 14. During the past season the Auckland Racing Club has paid the sum of 4161, <BB to the Government by way of taxation, made up as follows-.-Totalisator, 4155,090; amusements tax, 411661; income tax, J£3176; land tax, 4)059.

By Glxncok The wintef" meeting of the Napier Park Racing Club will be held on Friday and Saturday of this week. R. O’Donnell, jvho has for some time acted as private trainer to Mr. G. L. Stead, has severed his connection with that ’owner, and intends returning to Christchurch.
Sydney papers say that when Irish won the second division of the Nurserv Handicap at Warwick harm, be went out unbacked by his connections.
At Hastings Mr. C. F. Vallance’s gelding Sturdea is doing a lot of work and doing it well. He will be raced at the Napier Park and Hastings meetings, and will then come on to Trantham. This programme should fit him for the National Steeplechase, which race his owner is desirous of contesting with the Advance gelding.
Coalition is.a noticeable absentee from the list of entrants for the big steepleebnse events at the Hawke s Bay meeting next weak.
It is expected that the Southland trainer A. D. M’lvor, will shortly take up the position of starter to several clubs in the far south. This will mean that Mr W. Stone will require to find a new trainer. F. Ellis is expected to take the position. The latter was formerly trainer to Mr. W. Higgins at Trentham.
Usually Mr. J. Bull is a good supporter of the Napier and Hastings winter « meetings, but this Y ear of his team engaged. All Over <um Yankee Jack are not in work, while the Ellerslie trip found a weak spot 1 Ngata, and Omaha also required a rest after his three hal’d races. The Waveriey mentor, H. Rayner is taking Simon and Crucelle over for the Hawke’s Bay fixtures. The former is an improving horse, and should pick up■ a ■ace over fences, while Crucelle » expected to tetter her recent form if she gets firm going. The Oaks winner, Pepte, has resum- , ed work at Hastings. The chestnut mare has built up a lot <ly r,n F h * r s P ell> and has come in looking very big. A recent addition to F. Quinlivan’s team at Hastings is a gelding by Kllbroney, from Chakwana. C Reed will next season ride for the Auckland sportsman, Mr. E. W. Alison. His brother, Ashley, will continue to ■wear the Riddiford livery, while RoyPeed will again steer J. H. Jefferd s team.
A Press Association message from tendon states that Sir Cunliffc Owen has retained Hector Gray, the New Zealand jockey, for the present season. Gray will ride at Ascot.
