UNDEFENDED DIVORCE CASE
DECREE NISI GRANTED. His Honour Mr. Justice Salmond dealt, in the Supreme Court yesterday, with the application of Mary Steel Clout (Mr. H. F. O’Leary) for dissolution of her marriage with Norman Hampton Clout (Mr. P. S. K. Macassey), on the ground of adultery. The petitioner had Originally asked for judicial separation; but after the respondent had filed a crosspetition alleging desertion, she amended tho papers. Mr. Matassey agreed to this, and announced tho withdrawal of tho cross-petition, although the Judge remarked that, as the case was undefended, counsel could net bo heard, but could watch- the case for tho respondent. Thfe petitioner gave evidence that she was married on January 2, 1905 The -.urties lived in Wellington until May, 1917. when the petitioner left her husband on the ground of his misconduct with another woman.. Petitioner remonstrated with her husband, but he refused to give tin the other woman. On one occasion she saw the woman referred to in respondent's car. A deed of separation followed, and from that, time petitioner had not lived with her husband. Petitioner alleged that her husband had lived with another woman since 1917. An illegitimate child had been born to the woman with whom the respondent was living. Petitioner had been supporting herself since the separation. A. decree had been granted against tho woman with whom tho respondent had been living. . . After evidence had been given in Walter Dinnie, inquiry agent, His Honour granted a decree nisi.
