S.P.C.A.
The fortnightly meeting of the oommittee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held on Monday, when Mr. F. Meadowcroft presided over a good attendance of members. The collections since the previous meeting amounted to Al 5 11s, 6d., a large amount of which camo from Otaki, being collected by a member of the committee who had been visiting there. Among the amounts received were Al Is. each from Messrs. J. Hamilton, George Winder, H. Buckleton, and Al each from Messrs. T. E. Corkbill, R. B. Rigg, and S. P. Brandon. Inspector Henry reported on various cases of cruelty inquired into since tho previous meeting, among which were four cases of cruelty te horses, two te cows, and three to fowls. No case was bad enough to necessitate legal action being taken. r lho inspector also reported that a charge of cruelty to pigs had been dismissed at Dannevirke on account of the law allowing an animal's ears te be cut to a certain extent. It. was resolved to communicate with the R.S.P.C.A., London, with a view to finding out the English law in such cases as the above, and in regard to performing animals, with the idea of seeing if the present law in Now Zealand could not be altered. In regard to the scheme for interesting the Boy Scouts in the S.P.C.A., a further letter was received from the officer in charge of the Wellington troup to the effect that tho matter had been left te individual scout masters, who would communicate with the society.
