Arthur Polton proceeded against Joseph Taylor, fruiterer, to recover A 8 10s., being amount alleged to bo duo for the use of a van belonging to the plaintiff for a. period of ten weeks at 15s. per week; also to recover Al, being the amount -due for damage to the front footboard of the van while in the possession of the defendant. Mr. W. L. Rothenberg appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. F. Haigh) for the defendant. The case for the plaintiff was that the van was in a yard, and the defendant agreed to purchase it on the hire purchase system. He took possession of the van, and after using it for about ten weeks returned it, stating that he had no further use for it, as his own van bad been repaired. The defence was that the van had been lent to the defendant until the latter’s van was repaired. , After hearing evidence the Magistrate gave judgment for plaiXiff for A 6 10s., . which amount included the damage to the footboard. The plaintiff was also allowed costs. BY-LAW~CASES Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., dealt with the by-law cases. For having no number on his motorcycle,- Herbert F. Mander was fined ss. and 7s. costs. John E. Jones was fined 10s. and is. costs for leaving his motor-car in a street unattended. t For driving on the wrong side oi the plantation in Courtenay Place Harry B. Wise was fined 10s. and 7s. costs.
