FRENCH CLUB
The fortnightly meeting of the Irench cS took pLo last night at the, rooms of (the Y.W/.C.A- in Herbert Street. There was a large attendance of meim bers. Some twenty new members were en M°} l0 J. Hutcheson gave an. interesting lecture on the famous poem by Victor Hugo, “L’Expiation," and was loudiy applauded on resuming his seat.. Miss Smythson gave a fine rendering of Chaminade’s “Les Echappees ; MlDrury sang most cnarmmgly ' Comma la nuit”; and Miss Mead read a famous Alsatian piece, enliued “Le cl « ir <®-, TTalf an hour was spent in the French members engaging those who are not so conversant with Hie language, in private conversation in French, and this now departure was very well received. It was decided to keep this up as much as possible at future meetings A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Returned Soldiers’ Association for their help at the opening concert of the season, and the secretary was instructed to send official letter of thanks to the R.b.A. “The Marseillaise” and a vote oi thanks to the chair closed a delightful evening.
