MAGISTRATE’S COURT

ALLEGED BREAKING AND ENTERING Alfred Charles Needham, for whom Mr. C. A. L. Treadwell appeared, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.. with breaking and entering the dwelling house of Norah Christie, by day, with intent to commit a crime. O lithe application of Sub-Inspector Willis, the accused was remanded until Wednesday, and bail was allowed in one surety of -£25. Ronald M. Snider (Mr. C. A. L.Treadwell) was remanded for a week on a charge of stealing an overcoat, valued at £5 155.; the property of Kearns, Ltd. He was also charged with the theft of three pairs of socks, valued at 7s. 6d.. the property of some person unknown. Bail was allowed in the sum of JlltX). Jack Deeth, charged with receiving the goods alleged to have been, stolen by Snider, was also remanded for a. week, and bail.was allowed in one surety of .£lOO. Air. C. A. L. Treadwell appeared for accused. Robert Landy, a seafaring man, was sent to prison for two months for being an idle and disoiderly personi, and was fined 10s., in default 48 hours imprisonment, for drunkenness. On a charge of using indecent language, ho was convicted and discharged. For drunkenness, Joseph Harvey fined 10s., with the alternative of & hours’ imprisonment, and two first or fenders were fined ss. each. ijp p. Alorcom, convicted of committing a breach of his prohibition order, was fined 10s. and 7s. costs. There were four charges against Maud Grant of committing breaches of her prohibition order. It was explained on behalf of the defendant that she went into two hotels, and before she could get a. drink the police came in. Sub-Inspec-tor Willis added that on a third occasion accused obtained a drink and on tlm fourth occasion was -found with a flask. She was fined 40s. and costs on. the first charge and convicted and discharged on the others. . , _ Lilian Jukes, who was also of committing a breach of her' tion order, was discharged. Sub-Inspee tor Willis said that the woman doing her best, and that this was the first breach of her order. minoiTcharges. For boarding l a. moving train, H. Blandford was fined 20s. and 7s. costs. Arthur Cornwell pleaded guilty to polluting the Ngahauranga stream by throwing pystejr shells into it. He was 20s. and costs 7s. AA'illiam Lewis, Thomas Martin, ana George M'Carthy were each fined AOs. and 9s. costs for allowing stock to wander on the railway line at Plimmerton, For failing to register under tile Defence Act, Walter B. Newport and Albert Stevens were each fined and <s. coeds, and L. C. Spencer convicted or the third time of failing to attend drill, was fined .£5. For employing two girls under the a ß e of 18 to whom certificates ot fitness had not been issued, H. Gotlieb, proprietor ot the Ideal Clothing Factory, was fined 10s. and 7s. costs.
