CALAMITY HOWLERS. ’The following definite statements wore made in tho "Anti-Prohibition Manual,” 1918, issued by the National Association of Distillers and Wholesale Dealers. Prohibition, they howled, would mean: "Bankruptcy for thousands of manufacturers. Loss of millions of dollars revenue to railways. Loss of billions of dollars to tradesmen. Loss of billions of dollars to barrel and box makers, etc. Ixxss of JU16,000,000 national revenue. Immense loss to real estate investors, decreased rents, lower property values. Complete paralysis of trade. Imposition of hundreds of millions of direct taxes. I/oss of millions of insurance." What has actually happened ? The U.S.A. Internal Revenue Accounts show not a lots, but. an increase of over .£3l],• 000,000 in revenue the first "dry" year ns compared with tho preceding "wot” year. The savings banks accounts showed over .£284,000,000 increased deposits. Insurance companies recorded -£2,000,000,000 increased life insurance effected. Saloon properties were let for three ami four times tho rentals previously obtained. Moro wages-earners bought motorcars and houses than over before.
