BOULOGNE CONFERENCE POSTPONED RESTORATION OF ORDER THE FIRST NECESSITY By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Rec. June 9, 8.5 p.m) London, June 8. An exchange of Notes between Britain and Franco resulted in an indefinite postponement of the Boulogne Conference on tho Upper Silesian problems. Britain endorses the French theory that the first necessity is to restore order, and will await tho report of expert! before taking the next step.
A curious development has occurred in Faris, the German Ambassador protesting against the withdrawal of Allied troops , from tho German villages'in Upper Silesia, whereas he previously complained of their harsh treatment. —"The Times.” POLES EVACUATE OPPELN TERRIBLE SCENES DURING RECENT FIGHTING. (Rec. June 9, 8.5 p.m.) London, June 8. "The Times” correspondent at Oppeln states that tho Poles have evacuated the town, in accordance with tho British demand, and British troops have occupied it. The insurgents suffered heavy losses in five counter-attacks at Kandrgein. The Germans took 1700 prisoners. Terrible scenes were enacted in the town. Ten Polish prisoners were massacred by infuriated Bavarians, following on tho discovery of three Bavarian students crucified in a neighbouring forest. Tho retiring Poles destroyed bridges and looted and burned villages. Fighting is proceeding in Birawa. —"The Timos.” withdrawalTTgerman TROOPS STRAINED SITUATION EXPECTED TO BE RELIEVED. (Rec. June 9, 8.5 p.m.) London, Juno 8. Germany has assured Britain that she will order General Hofer, commanding tho self-defence troops in Upper Silesia, to obey the Allied Commission and withdraw from tho territory taken from the Polish insurgents. It is expected that this will relieve the strained situation.— "The Times.”
