C, AN ABORTIVE CONFERENCE. In answer to n query at last night s meeting of the City Council, tho Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P.) intimated that the demands of the tramway employees for increased wages recently came before a conference of tho officers of the corporation and representatives of the men. The conference held four sessions, and finally disagreed. The matter would now come before a special meeting of tho Tramways.Committee, which body would go into the whole question and report to tho council as a whole at the earliest possible moment.
