In the course of a reply to Sir Francis Bell, the Christchurch Labour members of Parliament (Messrs. You have not tried to justify or even .explain the Government’s action in paying men 10s. a day, despite the fact that the Arbitration Court award rate is 16s. a Jay, and despite the important fact, too, that your Government is committed by an honourable agreement ‘.With the New Zealand Workers’ Union, signed by Mr. Holmos (late engineer in. chief), 'endorsed by the present engineer in chief (Mr. Furkert), and also by the Minister in charge, to pay labourers on public •works rates ranging from Is. to 2s. 3d. an hour.” THE POSITION IN AUCKLAND.
