FALSE PRETENCES
WIDOW IMPOSED UPON.

Auckland, May 30. Leslie Murray, ship’s fireman, was charged -with 'having obtained 4140 by false pretences from Margaret Isobel Wiieon, widow. The latter advertised in the matrimonial columns of the papers, and Murray replied, representing himself to be an cx-Naval officer, who had been court-martialled, and discharged on a charge of hanging a German submarine officer after the white flag had been hoisted. He met Mrs. Murray, obtained from her 4110, went to Wellington, and was arrested. It was discovered that 'he was a. married man, and had never been in the navy, but in the coastal as a fireman. Accused pleaded guilty, and was committed to tho Supreme Court for sentence.
