LATE MR. THOMAS YOUNG
TRIBUTE FROM RED CROSS
CONFERENCE.
At the annual conference of the New Zealand branch of the British Rod Cross and Order of St. John, the chairman, Dr. W. E. Collins, referred to tho death of Mr. Thomas Young. Dr. Collins said: “It is my mournful duty to announce to you the death of Mr. Thomas Young, one of our honoured vice-presidents, and at one time chairman of the executive, ami at the time of his death chairman of the Wellington Centre. It is hard for me to speak alxmt him, because since 1 came so much in contact with him in matters affecting the New Zealand branch of the Red Cross, Society and Order of St. John, I learnt to regard him with admiration and affection. You all knew him, and you all knew his very kindly nature, his pleasant wit, his intense desire to do all he could for the comfort of the soldiers and sailors, and you could not fail to admire his practical commonsense and his sound legal knowledge, which was of such benefit to the society. This, of course, .you might have expected from one of the. leading barristers in the Dominion, but in addition to liis advice he gave his time ungrudgingly. We shall miss his bright and cheery presence very much. We, bis friends and comrades, regarded him with a very sincere affection, and that being so, what can we say with regard to those nearest and dearest to 'him, to whom we can only express our deei? sympathy.” ; Several letters of sympathy received from other centres were read. On the motion of Dr. Collins seconded by Mr. B. Tripp, the following resolution was passed, members standing in silence: “The Executive Council of the New Zealand branch of the British Red Cross Society and Order of St. John deeply regrets the death of Air. Thomas Young, a vice-president of the society, who from the inception of the society had occupied a prominent position in nil its activities, and who had on all occasions given his time and talents ungrudgingly to forward the society's work. The council desires to place on record its deep appreciation of the very valuable eervices rendered by Mr. Young to the society, and desires to convey to Mrs. Young, and family its heartfelt sympathy in their irreparable bereavement,”
