NEW GROUPINGS TO EFFECT' BIG SAVING. (Rec. May 27, "8.30 p.m.) London, May 27. Sir Erie Gtrides, when moving in the House of Commons the second reading of the Railway Bill', expressed the opinion that new groupings would within a few years save. .£25,000,000 annually.
Air. J. ft. Clynes (Labour), in moving the rejection of the Bill on the grounds of failure to provide for nationalisation, which was the Government’s policy before the election, expressed regret that the men had had to bargain away their representation on directorates in order to retain their wage position. Sir Eric Geddes, intervening, said that the men had forfeited their share in the management voluntarily. and without consulting the Government, who adhered io its belief in the wisdom of the provision.
'The debate was adjourned.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
