-TILE FUTURE OF INDIA.” The College Governo-s yesterday received an intimation to the effect that Lieut.Colonei Lascelles, of the General Staff iu India, in order to induce the children of New Zealand and their parents to add to their knowledge of India and its people is offering a prize of XlO for the best essay on “The Future of India as a Dominion of the British Empire.” The competition, which is open to pupils of technical high schools and secondary schools, including registered private secondary schools throughout New Zealand, will be subject to various conditions, tho chief of which aro that candidates must not be over tho age of 18 years on July 31, 1921; the essay must not exceed MOO words, and all essays must first be judged in the schools, only the five best from each school being sent in for consideration.
This communication was from the Education Department. The chairman announced that the principals of the two colleges had been notified of the competition.
