UNEMPLOYED RETURNED SOLDIERS
THE POSITION IN WELLINGTON. The names of at least 140 Wellington returned soldiers seeking employment are on tho books of the local repatriation office. Some 26 men, including qualified bookkeepers, require clerical work, and; are unable to take up any other line of occupation. A few' of the applicants have lost limbs. The repatriation officials are scouring the city in their endeavour to place the ex-soldiers. From April 26 to May 20 about 350 returned men called at the office in search of work. , , About a fortnight ago 23 returned men who had appiied at the repatriation, office for employment were sent, through the agency of the Labour Department, to the tree-planting camp at Himatangi. It is understood that the number of civilians who were sent by the Labour Department to the same place did net exceed two or three. Another seventeen returned men were sent to road work at ■ Akatarawa about the same time.
