FURTHER PARTICULARS OF THE DAMAGE.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, May 19.
The Admiral Codrington returned to her anchorage this morning, and resumed loading. The sea is moderating. Mr. M'Carthy, the consulting engineer of the meat company, states that the damage to the Admiral Codrington is much less than, was expected. It is proposed to effect temporary repairs. The vessel’s steru is twisted from the 25ft. mark to 15ft. downward. A few plates have been strained and rivets torn out. Auckland, May 19.
The sVhakatane berthed this morning. She will probably unload a small quantity of cargo from No. 4 hold, to permit of an inspection of the damage. Captain Davies declined to make any statement pending a nautical inquiry. Gisborne, Later.
A further examination shows that the stem of the Admiral Codrington can easily be temporarily repaired to enable her to go Home. The stem is twisted, and bulged out, but only the first row of plates on. each side is aff.ectcd. The damage starts at the red. water-line, and "oes down about twelve feet. Very little water has been made. The damage is somewhat similar to that 'inflicted on the sVaimatq when the Arahura collided with her.
