ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY

A council meeting' of the AA’cllington Acclimatisation Society was held last night, Air. E. J. C. AViffin presiding. The ranger reported that good heads have been seen in t'he Ohnu Gorge. Stags are not roaring in the deer country around Paraparaumu. Three heads have been taken. One was a 14-pointer and was the best taken for a number of years. Another was an 11-pmnter, with a spread of 39 inches, and the third was a rather poor 10-pointer.

Several letters were received on the proposed appointment of a permanent ranger for the society, but it was stated that at present tho society was not considering such an appointment. The North Canterbury Society wrote asking if the AA r ellington Society required any brown ova for this year. It was decided to leave the. matter to the Fish Committee. Mention was made of the fact that the AVairarapa. Lake was full of trout. Ono ■member stated that the fish were big and heavy, and .could be seen jumping out of the water after flies. The lake was blocked up, and the water was everywhere. Where these fish were was usually a paddock. The water has now been lot out.

The following members wbre elected by ballot for the now council:—Messrs. L. O. H. Tripp. F. WhEtley, and A. A. Seed. Tho remaining members are elected at the annual meeting.
