RETAIL SHOP ASSISTANTS
<si r _The statement in this issue that a Dominion conference of employers and employees will be held to endeavour to settle tho industrial dispute of the Retail Shop Assistants Union is, lo say tho least of it, a little, premature. No such decision has been arrived at. For the majority of the employers in the hardware, boots, stationery, fancy goods, and drapery trades the first intimation of such a far-reaching action is the paragraph with which jou have been supplied. Whether such a conference is either practicable or possible at such short notice having regard to the widespread interests involved, remains to be seen.—l am, Secretary The Now Zealand Federation’of Drapers and Clothiers. Wellington, May 10, 1921.
