SCHOOL COMMITTEES’ ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual general meeting of the School Committees Association was held at the Education Board offices last even ing and was well attended. Mr. A. G.Wallace presided. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance for the year of A’29 6 s 3d. It was resolved to support the application of the Northland School Committee to the Education Board for a grant for asphalting the playground. ■ The question of selecting nominees for future vacancies on the Education Board was discussed and also the disabilities of the present system relating to the appointment of teachers who through inability to secure advancement in the school where they have previously taught seek a fresh appointment qlsewhere. The system and the basis of pay inent at present in vogue were strongly condemned and speakers instanced cases where three different teachers had been in charge of one class in the same year. [ t was pointed out that tins necessarily operated against good results, and it was decided to go fully into the question at the next meeting of the assocfation A resolution was passed to the effect that scholarships should be brought up toy pre-war value monetarily, such resolution to be forwarded to the Minister of Education. . Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring president, secretary, and treasurer and carried by acclamation. The election of officers for the ensuing year resultedPesidant, Mr. A. J.
