Among the many valedictory telegrams received by the Rev. Father Gilbert, Rector of St. Patrick’s College, at. the banquet given in his honour last night, was one from the Grey district old boys, making a touching request. Tho telegram read: "Please convey to Father Gilbert our heartiest congratulations on his appointment as one of the Marist representatives at the conference of his Order. ... If God spares him Io visit. Dublin, we request that he celebrate Requiem Mass for the soul of our martyred rector, Dr. Waters, and, if possible, lay on his grave a wreath from the St. Patrick's old West Coast collegians, for which purposes we are forwarding you five guineas.”
