Recently the Petone Borough Council made an' allocation of the playing areas on the Recreation Ground, whereby tlie Rimbr Union was to have the use ot groVinds Nos. l and 3, while the League played on No. 2; on the following Saturday the position would be reversed, the League taking Nos. 1 and 3, and the Rugby Union No. 2. The Rugby Union considered that the arrangement would prove unsatisfactory, and at the meeting of the council a fortnight ago a letter was received from the union, suggesting that the entire use of the Recreation Ground be granted the respective clubs on alternate Saturdays. The council then decided to accede to the request provided the League was agreeable. At the council meeting last night a reply was received from the secretary of the Petone League Club, stating that the proposal hud been carefully considered by his committee, which was strongly opposed to any scheme which would tend to deprive the club of the grounds. A communication, couched in similar terms, was also received from the AVellington Rugby Football League. The Mayor (Mr. J. AV. M’gwan) said he gathered from the tone of the letter that the League was not agreeable to the proposal. He moved that, the Rugby Union be informed of the League's decision. Councillor E. Tovey seconded the motion, which was carried. Oh, Mary! Mary! always contrary! How does your garden grow, dear?
