A most enjoyable, and, from an instructional viewpoint, very profitable afternoon was spent last week by the soldier students in dairy farming under the vocational training scheme. A party consisting of fourteen men, was motored in the cars of the Red Cross bociety up to the Government Laboratory at Wallaceville. Here they were taken in charge by one of the officials and shown specimens of various germs with which cattle become affected, and which, if permitted to go unchecked, propagate at an alarming rate. After spending an interesting hour at the laboratory the partv proceeded to Messrs. Aplin an 1 Haverhill’s farm at Silverstream. Here it was met by Mr. Ward manager ot the municipal milk depot, who imparted some sound advice to tho prospect lie farmers on points to be considered in selecting good milking cows, diseases o cattle and common remedies to be ap plied in the case of emergency. Keen interest was maintained by ’ throughout the address, Mr. Ward bcin„ plied with many questions.
