SAT UR DAY ’S B USINESS. Mr. H. AV. Bundle, S.M.. continued the hearing in the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday of 'the informations against Martin Henry Christensen, who was charged that on or about September 1, 1920, he. broke and entered the shop of Kenneth M'Kenzie and- stole 10 tins of paint of the value of =£s' Ils. There were three other informations which were heard last' Wednesday, and the fourth charge had to be adjourned because tho principal -witness, Kenneth M’Kenzie, was out of town. On the Court resuming on Saturday morning, Mr. A. 18. Siewwright, on behalf of M’Kenzie, apologised for his absence, and this was accepted by the Magistrate. Chief Defective Ward prosecuted and Mt. W. E. Leicester appeared for accused. Kenneth M'Keuzie. master painter, Riddiford Street, said that when taking stock he missed some paint. Early this month he was shown some tins of paint at the. Wellington South Police Station, and these were similar to what he had in stock, and the value would be about JJS Us. Witness did not know the accused. Constable Joss gave formal evidence of searching a workshop at the accused’s premises and finding the missing' property. Christtfensen, who pleaded guilty to all the charges, was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was allowed as previously. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., dealt with the police cases. ' Emily May Baker was charged with loitering in Tory- Street for immoral purposes. The woman was found Vo have a long list of previous convictions dating hack to 1900. She was convicted and sentenced to a month’s imprisonment. John Patrick Downes pleaded guilty to stealing a watch and chain and matchbox valued at £2, tihe property of Isaac Simpson. The theft took place at Holensville on February 2 last, and the goods were sold at Helensville for 7s. Tho accused then came to Wellington, and was arrested by the wharf police on Friday. Downes was fined 405., and ordered, to refund the 7s. for which the watch and chain had been sold. Alexander F. Robinson, alias M’Lean, was charged with failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order in favour of his wife, the arrears to December 22 last amounting to d;l4 2s. The defendant, wKo intimated that he would non provide for his wife, was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment. The hearing of the civil case of Leuzine v. Bainl was concluded before Mr. H. W. Bundle, S.M. The plaintiff, for whom Mr. R. Kennedy appeared, claimed from the defendant, represented by Mr H. H. Cornish, the sum of AUI9 IGs. 7d. for materials supplied and work mid labour said io have been performed for defendant, also for rent of premises and travelling expenses incurred in connection with defendant’s business. The defendant' counter-claimed for the sum of .£146 for value of timber belonging to defendant, and alleged to have been used by plaintiff, also for work stated to have been carried out for plaintiff. Tho hearing extended over three days and at the conclusion of the case on Saturday the Magistrate reserved his decision.
