HOUSE DESTROYED
FIRE IN GLENCOE STREET. No. 1 Glencoe Street, a house owned and occupied by Mr. John Bates, was destroyed by fire, along with its contents, shortly after midnight on Saturday. The fire is thought to have been caused by a leakage in the gas meter. The building was insured in the Atlas Office for £3OO, but there was no insurance on the contents. The house adjoining the one destroyed was badly damaged on one side. Its contents were slightly damaged. FIRE AT LYALL BAY. At 2 p.m. on Saturday the Fire Brigade was summoned to an outbreak of fire nt 101 Apu Crescent (Lyall Bay), the residence of Mr. George C. Hornig and his family. The occupants were absent when the blaze occurred. A wall dividing the kitchen from the dining-room was burnt, and considerable damage was done to fhe ceiling and the roof. Neighbours had the fire in hand by the time the brigade arrived. The house was a five-roomed one, and was owned by Mr. Hornig. It was insured in the Standard Office for £GOO. and the furniture was covered in the same office by a policy of £2OO. The leaving of an electric iron with the current on is stared to have caused the fire. HOUSE DESTROY'ED AT.. MANGAWEKA. Pv Telegraph.—Press Association. Taihape, April 16.
