The decree has gone forth that the walls which surround Paris shall disappear to give place to spacious public gardens, nnd the work of demolition is already far advanced, especially in the neighbourhood of Auteuil. It was in 1840 that M. Thiers, amid great opposition, passed the Bill for tho erection of the fortifications.
