THE NAVY LEAGUE
WELLINGTON EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the Navy League Executive was held in the Navy League rooms in Woodward Street yesterday afternoon. Tn the unavoidable absence of the chairman (Colonel Campbell) Mr. Hollis presided. There were also present:—Mrs. C. Richardson, Mrs. Darling, and Miss Edwin (representing the Ladies’ Auxiliary), Captain Chudley. Messrs. lan Duncan, J. Crawford, Underwood, Gill, and B. Keesing. An apology was received from Mrs. Hosking for her absence. A letter was received from the Christchurch branch with reference to a conference which it has been decided to hold later. Delegates froin the Wellington Navy League will be:—Mrs. J. Darling, Colonel Campbell, and Mr. Darroch. Two new members of the committee (Mr. J. Crawford and Mr. Gill) were welcomed.
Various sub-committees were set up, including finance, education, and entertainment committees. A letter was received from Admiral Hopwood (London) expressing the hope that more subscribers to the Navy League would be obtained, and urging the league to get still more members. Much appreciation was expressed of the services of all who had assisted with the luncheons and picnics for flic sailors of H.M.S. Chatham and H.M.S. Philomel. In addition to the entertainment of the men, a dinner party had been arranged for the officers of the ships. Thanks were given also to the City Council for arranging for the conveyance of the sailors from the two ships to Dustin's, where the luncheons wore held, and from Dustin’s to Kelburn Avenue on route to Kelburn Park, and to the Kelburn Tramway Company fol their conveyance by cable cars to ths perk.
