STONE FOR EXTENSION WORK

About two tons of explosives were used »h firing the first shot in the Sugarloaf, Paritutu, this morning, with the object of procuring stone for harbour extension. About 80,000 tons, it is estimated, were dislodged. The engineer/ profess satisfaction with the results, much largo stone buing dislodged and exposed. Tho mutilation of Paritutu, an historic liuiit; mark, has been much canva«s*se<i, but the results are said by the engineers to justify it.
