RESULTS OF SIXTEENTH COMPETITION

The New Zealand Utility Poultry Club’s sixteenth egg-laying competition taaniBated on March 31. The egg-yield taper bird compares most favourably with any of the series held by the club. Owing to the severe conditions relative to the weight of eggs to be laid by each fowl, the official results show that several competitors’ birds with good totals wore unable to fulfil the conditions, and were, therefore, classed ag- ineligible for prize money. Phenomenal results were obtained from the ducks. During the eleven months of the test Mr. Knight's Indian Runner duck laid 334 eggs. The chief prize-winners are:— _ Heavy Breed Singles—R. R. Christie (Melbourne). 236 eggs, Black Orpington. Heavy Breed Teams —J. Gunn (Raceeourse Hill). 1064 eggs. Black Orpingtons. Light Breed Singles-A. C. Goodlet (Dunedin). 265 eggs. White Leghorn. Three-bird Light Breed Teams «rs. Gorinski (Invercargill), 725 eggs, White Leghorns. , „ m Three-bird Heavy Breed Teamr.-Mr. T. E. Conway (Bay of Plenty), 669 eggs, Black ° Light °Breed Flock Teanis-G. Bonnett (Snreydon). 1088 eggs, White Leghorns. ■ Three-bird Duck Teams-Willoughby Knight (Wellington), 821 eggs, Indian Runne Bingle Duck—A. F. Beay, Fendalton, 212 eggs, Indian Runners. Two-year Duck Test (six Indian Runners) —W. T. Green. 2887 eggs, a world s record. The dub has retained Messrs. Willoughby Knight’s and g. Hawke's single ducks for a full year, also Mr. W. T. Greens second year team for a third year test. On Wednesday morning Mr. Knight s duck broke the world’s record for a single duck or fowl by laying its 340th egg.
