BILLIARDS

During the past few weeks a series of games have been played at the Working Men’s Club Rooms for the purpose of selecting a challenger for the club championship shield, held during the last year by Mr. J. A. Rait. Some keen games were witnessed, and Mr. G. Cairns was selected as challenger. The match, 500 up, took place on Wednesday evening, April 8, in the presence of a large attendance of members. A fine game resulted, Mr. Rait eventually winning by 53. The winner's beat breaks were 48, 33, 30,' 23, 22; the loser’s, 46, 28, 27, 14' 12. A special trophy for the highest break made by any of the contestants for the position of challenger was won by Mr. Cairns, with an unfinished break of 60. It is the intention of the club to hold a snookiir club championship at an early date.
