WELLINGTON BRICK COMPANY LIMITED

There was a good representative attendance of shareholders at the first ordinary general meeting of the above company on Wednesday evening. .Mr. William Jack, chairman of directors, presided, and in moving the adoption of the report said that it was expected that in a comporatively short time the necessary works would be erected to enable the company to commence operations for the manufacture of bricks, tiles, pipes and other similar material. The first annual leport of directors stated that the minimum subscription, entitling the company to be registered, was obtained before the end of last year, 1920, but the certificate of incorporation and t,ho certificate entitling the company to commence business were only received from the Registrar on January 21 last. The initial steps had been taken for the preparation of the site of the company’s works at Johnsonville, and an additional area of seven acres adjoining the company’s property had been acquired on most advantageous terms. Plans were being prepared for the construction of a railway siding into the company's property, and negotiations were in progress for the installation of an initial plant with whic/h to commence operations pending preparation of the site and securing the machinery for the works. Before determining on the precise type of plant to be employed the directors are seeking expert advice, and consequently have not so far deemed it expedient to send a representative abroad for the purpose of its selection.

The report was adopted. It was decided to increase the number of directors from five to seven, and. the following were elected: —Messrs. Milton Alpass, of Konini, Pahiaitua; William Hunter, of Palmerston North; W. Jack, J. Duff, C. Earle, N. F. Willoughby, and F Moadoweroft, of Wellington. Messrs. Watkins, Hull, Hunt and Wheeler were appointed auditors of the . company. Specimens ‘of brides, tiles, pipes and pottery made from clay from the. company’s property at Johnsonville were exhibited at the meeting, and created considerable interest.
