GERMAN REPARATION
FRANCE DETERMINED TO EXACT HER DUE
FORCIBLY IF NECESSARY
By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright. (Rec. April 6, 7.40 p.m.) Paris, April G.
M. Briand (Premier) reiterated France’s determination to compel Germany to pay war damages. Germany would find a means to pay when the Allies substituted acts for words. The supreme moment was approaching, and France was determined to have the last word. Germany had been fully warned that France was determined to exact her due, forcibly if neces-sary.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. THE VERSAILLES TREATY UNITED STATES UNABLE TO RATIFY IT. (Rec. April 6, 5.5 p.m.) Washington, April 5. President Harding told a gathering of journalists that there was no practical way in which the United States could ratify the Versailles Treaty, but on the other hand there was no need for the immediate passage of the Knox peace resolution. The Administration would move cautiously and prudently to solve the situation. He insisted that he had no definite plan, and declined to discuss a possible programme. It is expected that the entire subject of international relations will be dealt with in the Message to Congress next week.—Reuter. FRENCH MISSIDN IN AMERICA THE POWER OF THE SENATE. (Rec. April G, 8.20 p.m.) Washington, April 5. It is understood that at Senator M’Cormick’s dinner in honour of M. Viviani, M. Lauzanne, in a speech, said: “France fears God and the United States Senate, and realises that the Senate at the present moment is nearer c.:rth and more active.” M. Viviani told the Senators, in reply to questions, that if the League of Nations declined to recognise the recent treaty with Poland, Fiance would withdraw from the League. This delighted the "bitter-enders,” who think it sustains the argument that the League is unworkable. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
