HUNGARIAN COUP
CONTRADICTORY TELEGRAMS
WILL KARL BE CROWNED AT BUDAPEST?
(By Telegraph-Press Assoo'.ation-Oonyriicht
London, April 3.
Highly contradicto’y telegrams come from Vienna. Some state that Karl has gone, some that he is going, and some that he has no intention of going unless tho Allies turn him out. The “Daily Chronicle’s” correspondent, who reached Steinam Anger on Saturday, says that there is a camp of out-and-out Karlists there, and the Cabinet at Budapest is equally convinced’ that there are Karlists in Budapest. "Karl’s closest supporters tell nie that His Majesty’ has not the slightest intention of leaving Hungary. I visited the Bishop’s palaeo nnd saw Karl, who lookeel grave but happy. His supporters at the Palaeo say he will not leave so long as no French or English troops are sent against him, but he is prepareel to stand by the Treaty of Trianon. Karl has 15,000 supporters already at his disposal, and practically the whole of tho Hungarian army behind him. To the Hungarians Karl offers complete cessation of the White Terror, and promises the Succession States that he will not seek any extension of the kingdom. He will bo quite content to reign as a National Hungarian King." The correspondent says it is evident the impression is being spread abroad that Karl is being prevented from assuming his rights in order that no excuse may be given the Succession States to interfere. When that trouble is averted Karl will be crowned at Budapest.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
