Vice-Bkgal. The Governor-General (Lord Jellieoe) received a civic welcome at Nelson yesterday morning, when there was a great gathering at the Church steps. Speeches were made by the Mayor (Mr. M . W. Snodgrass) and Mr. H. Atmore, M.P. His Excellency had a similar reception at Motueka in ithe afternoon. He leaves today for the West Coast.—Press Assn.
The Minister of Justice (Hon E. P. Lee) who has been in the South Island for some days, is expected to return to Wellington to-day. The Minister of Education (Hon. C. J. Parr) is expected to return from Auckland to-day.
Dr. J. W. Hall, who has just resigned from the position of assistant medical superintendent at Dunedin Hospital, is at present in Wellington, and will leave for England next week to undertake a post-graduate course of study.
Mr R W. Dalton, His Majesty’s Trude Commissioner, has left Wellington on an official visit to Dunedin and Christchurch. Mr. Dalton expects to be away for about five or six weeks. Tho Director of Forestry has returned from an official tour of the North and South Islands.
Constable P. Cosgrave. who has toon stationed at Mount Cook Police Station for the past seven years, has resignedin order to take up hotelkcepmg at haikoura.
The Rev. L. Minifie, formerly of Mmterton, has terminated his charge of the Pahiatua Methodist Church, and will transfer shortly io Foxton.
Atr G A. Empson, Chief Postmaster nt Thames, has retired on superannuation after jeare of in charge of various post offices in hew Zealand. One of the ministers who is coming to New Zealand to serve the Presbyterian Church is the Rev. P. Gladstone. Hughes. BA? from the Welsh Presbyterian Church. On the voyage, Mrs. Hughes« toallh, which had teen rather indifferent look a turn, for the worse, and she duct a few days after reaching Sydney, leaving four young children. Air. Hughes, with his family, will leave for New Y,calami by the Niagara about April 7. Mr. Arnold Hansson,. MIAChief Inspector in the State Forest Sei•rice, has returned from the Westland Forests, and is at present at Ute hem office prior to an inspection of the forests in the North Island.
