ADDRESSES BY LIBERA I, AND LABOUR CANDIDATES.

The 'Labour candidate for the Pa tea seat (Mr. M'lnvride) addressed a largo meeting at Ilawera. He outlined his policy, which is along New Zealand Labour Party lines. He spoke on the subjects of a State bank, the cost of living,shipping, profiteering, nationalisation, initiative, referendum, and recall, giving the usual Socialist views. The Liberals and Reformers were charged with 'being engaged in a sham fight. Mr. IT. JS. Holland, M.P., also spoke, mainly on hi* experiences in Parliament. Both speakers were subjected to several interruptions. A motion of thanks-to the speakers was carried by acclamation. Mr Morrison, Liberal candidate, (addressed a ' meeting at Waverley. Hs contended that the Government’s land policy permitted aggregation, and criticised the Government for income tax deductions made from payments to farmers when distributing their proportion Of ths profits made by tlie Imperial Government on New' Zealand wool. Tie predicted that there would be no surplus next year as there would be less imports to collect. Customs on, and owing to, the 'declining value of produce, farmers m come tax would yield little. Ihe candidate favoured a State bank, which would prevent large sums of money going to Australia through Australian banks branches in New Zealand, lie diseu-ed the atitude of extreme Labour, and said the disloyal utterances of its speakers alone were sufficient to lose, them the nf nil but n small section.
