BOOKMAKING CHARGE
ANOTHER CHRISTCHURCH CASE.

A charge of having carried on the business of a bookmaker was preferred against William Whelan before Mr. M'Carthy in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. One witness gave evidence as to making bets by post with accused. Mr. Donnelly, Crown Prosecutor, asked at this stage that the case be allowed to stand oyer till the Court of Appeal gave its decision in the Whitta case. The request was granted, and accused was allowed bail in his own recognisances of ,£5OO.
