NEW VALUATIONS
"Ou valuation business only” was the prominent imprint on envelopes received by many property-holders m Wellington vesterdn'v. Tho contents were slips representing the new (and in most cases) increased valuations which have recently been made tor the Government by Mr. James Ames (in the case of central city). In some cases, notably in progressive business ureas, the valuations have been considerably increased, whilst in residential quarters a Id to 20 per cent, increase has been made according to the locality. Tho last day for receiving obieetious is April 18. The new valuations will not. bo at all welcome, ns not. only will they only affect the amount assessible under the land tax. but tho municipal rates are based upon the same figures.
