RECOMMENDATIONS OF MINERS’ COUNCIL QUESTION OF TERMINATING EXISTING CONTRACTS (By Telegraph-Press Associatlon-Oopyrlffhl London, March 21. The Yorkshire Miners’ Council has decided to recommend the members to temporarily abandon the policy of the National Wages Board and the National Pool, and to empower the executive to proceed with negotiations on a district basis during the present abnormal state. The South Wales Miners’ Council decided in a contrary way. • The National Executive will, meet in London on Thursday to consider the answer from all districts as to whether the notice to terminate the existing contracts shall he allowed to expire, which will mean a lock-out on April I.—Aus.N.Z. London, March 21. The executive of the Scottish Mine Workers’ Union decided io recommend the non-acceptance of the District Wages Board. If the London Conference favoured the proposal, the Scottish delegates should propose a restricted working policy in every British coalfield.—Aus.N.Z.' Catile Assn.
GOVERNMENT ADVANCE SUGGESTED
PROVIDING CHEAP COAL FORSTEEL TRADE. London, March 21
Mr. Frank Hodges (secretary of the Miners’ Federation), sneaking nt Ebbw Vale, admitted that the present wanes exceeded the coal prices, but suggested that tho Government should place a hundred millions to the industry’s credit, thereby providing cheap coal tor the steel trade,'which would result in increased trade, enabling the debt to be wined out in ten years.—Aus.-N.Z.
