Several Western Senators and Congressmen have presented a request to Mr. Harding to have an immediate, embargo put on imports of wool, hides, meats, butter, lemons, and cotton, otherwise the existence, of some producers in America will be in immediate danger. Senator Cameron, of Arizona, stated that more than 100,096,000 pounds ot wool had arrived in the United States since November, and 100,000,000 pounds more was en route. Local producers have already two years’ supply of wool available, and that with a heavy shearing to come.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

TARIFF BILL TO BE INTRODUCED. (Roc. March 20, 5.5 p.m.) Washington, March 18.

Cabinet held a lengthy meeting to consider the requests for an embargo on wool. President Harding is understood to be reluctant to take such action, but he concluded that the farmers’ plight demanded some form of immediate attention, It is hoped that the Tariff Bill to be introduced at a special Congressional session, either as an emergency or permanently, will obviate the necessity for an embargo.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

(Rec. March 20, 11.5 p.m.) New York, March 19

It is reported that President Harding informed a delegation of Western live stock interests visiting the White House that he was opposed to an embargo, but favoured a short Congressional resolution protecting agricultural commodities, similar to the Emergency Tariff vetoed by Mr. Wilson.—Aus.-N.Z.
