SERIOUS ACCIDENT
MAN KNOCKED OVER CLIFF.

Whakatane, March 15.
The second serious accident in a xveek occurred yesterday at 4 p.m. at the headxvorks of the Whakatane electric scheme at Awaponga Falls'. Charles Por-' ter, aged 50, was xvorking at the edge of the face when he was struck on the head by a cheese-shaped rock weighing 301 b., which fell from the hillside, and wae knocked over the cliff. He fell about 20 foet to a rock ledge. The foreman, Mays, jumped over and saved the man from falling further. The injured man was hauled up with ropes and carried two miles to a motor road, and thence brought te the hospital. He suffered severe injuries to his head, face, and arms, and was badly bruised about tho body.
