CLAIM FOR BONUS
PETONE GASWORKS CASE CONCILIATION COMMISSIONER’S DECISION. Under clause 13 of the ogreement between the Wellington Gasworkers’ -Union and the Petone Borough Council, an application for a settlement of the dispute between the council and its employees at the gasworks over (he claim for the payment of the 3s. weekly bonus, was referred to the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. W. Newton). Mr. L. Glover (secretary of the union) informed a Dominion reporter yesterday that he had received the following communication from Mr. Newton in connection with tho matter:—
"It appears that tHie first application for the above bonus was made by the union on January 14, 1921, and after some correspondence the Borough Council intimated that it had decided to grant the bonns only te the workers receiving less Allan 44 10s. per week. This xvas not acceptetl as satisfactory by the union, and the matter was referred to mp for a decision.
"After hearing the. representatives of the parties, and giving full and careful consideration to the position, I am of opinion that the whole of the workers covered by the agreement are entitled to receive the bonus of 3s. per week in addition to the wages and bonus as provided by clauses 3 and 5 of the agreement.” "I am of opinion that there will not te any further trouble in connection with the matter.” remarked Mr. Glover, ’“as I believe this is a just and fair settlement of tjie dispute.”
