CAUSING ANXIETY TO* GOVERNMENT.
Cape Town, March 14.
Discussing the additional Estimates in the House of Assembly, the Minister of Finance (Hon. Henry Burton) said the ordinary revenue amounted to 4)29,500,000, and the expenditure to 430,250.600. The estimated deficit was 4330,000. The financial position was such as to cause the Government serious anxiety.—Aus.N.Z. CahJe Assn.
VOTES CREDITED TO WRONG CANDIDATE.
Cape Town, March 14. In the Supreme Court an application for a recount of.the East London ballot papers, on the ground that a bundle was credited to the wrong man, resulted in the,votes for Mr. Stewart, the Labour candidate, being increased te 1503, and those for Mr. loxvnds, South African Party, being diminished to 1441. Mr. Stewart will noxv apply to the Supreme Court to be declared duly elected.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
