“PIN-PRICKING” TACTICS
TROUBLE WITH CASUAL HARBOUR BOARD LABOUR
ELEVEN MEN DISMISSED That the "pin-pricking" tactics have not yet been thoroughly dropped on the waterfront was proved on Saturday morning. Some of the casual Harbour Board men working the Athenic on Friday night knocked off before 10 o’clock—at about 9.45. These men were docked half an hour’s pay on Saturday, and as a result they refused to turn to until 8.30 a.m. The Harbour Board, however, did not agree to this and refused to engage the men. They stood by, however, and at 11 o’clock a fresh engagement of labour was made, the men having meanwhile lost three hours’ pay. ■ Trouble was also experienced with the men engaged on the Rimutaka. On Friday night elevenrout of nineteen men refused to clean up the shed floor between 9.40 and 10 o’clock. All these men were therefore dismissed.
