SATURDAY’S SITTING

Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., heard the police oases at the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday. John Romney Gibbons was remanded to Wednesday on a charge of breaking and entering the dwelling of Bariota de Stefano and >Salvatore de Stefano, and stealing therefrom a Post Office Savings Bank book, one tie, one pencil-case, one comb in case, and two handkerchiefs, of the total value of £l, the property of Bartola de Stefano.

For drunkenness, Hugh Kerragan nnd John R. S. Cuthbertson, both with five previous convictions, were each fined 411, with the option of three days’- imprisonment. Peter Mulcahy, with two previous convictions, was also fined 20s. In default three days’ imprisonment. John Hyde was fined £1 and Thomas Mylett 10s.

Joseph Roberts, who was found helplessly drunk, was ordered io pay 17s. 6d. medical expenses, in default seven days’ imprisonment. Patrick L. J. Foster was lined ss. for drunkenness, and 10s. for committing u breach of his prohibition order. Thomas Glen, a seaman on the Viking Star, who was charged with unlawfully absenting himself from the ship, was ordered to forfeit two days’ pay, and sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment, but was ordered to be placed on board prior to the sailing of the vessel.
